Angels We Have Heard On High/Ding Dong Merrily On High - This arrangement combines these two carols by alternating phrases from each and by having sections of the carols occur simultaneously. There are also free sections of imitative counterpoint interspersed. All this occurs over a syncopated ostinato rhythm that has the eight eighth notes of the 4/4 measure grouped as 3,3,2 resulting in a very festive arrangement for concert or church prelude use. Chorale Prelude on Christ The Lord Is Risen Today - This Chorale Prelude is in the form of a fantasia as it uses phrases from this hymn interspersed with a lot of free material. It can serve as either a prelude or postlude. The trombone uses a syncopated eighth note rhythm during the sustained notes at the beginning. This pattern then dominates the last third of the piece and it evokes visions of Widor’s Toccata. Advanced
