Clarinet Unaccompanied

Hep Cats for Solo Clarinet - The title is a double entendre, first suggesting the jazz influences, and second, being a musical portrait of felines. The first movement is called “Siamese” and was written in memory of the composer’s cat, Siegfried, who was part Siamese. It is an upbeat, swing movement. “Angora” is the title of the second movement and is moody, bluesy, and mysterious. The last movement, “Tom” is in a rock style and is aggressive. Advanced

Marche from Divertissement - This is the fourth movement of six contrasting movements for a woodwind doubler that was composed for and premiered by Bret Pimentel. Each movement can stand alone as a solo piece or it can be played by a woodwind doubler as part of a suite. The Marche for clarinet and piano is not a piece that would be used in a parade. It is a march that exists in the mind of a child who is playing with toy soldiers; therefore there is playfulness and humor that would not occur in a functional march. Advanced

Three Greek Dances for Clarinet and Piano - "Three Greek Dances" was transcribed for Peter Bianca from the clarinet and marimba version. Kalamationos is the most popular Greek dance and is Peloponnesian in origin. Like its cousin, the Syrtos the national dance of Greece, it is in 7/8 meter grouped as 3-2-2. Zeibekiko has its origin in the Eastern Aegean Islands. It is in 9/4 meter at a slow tempo with a lot of syncopation. Hassapikos is a buthcher’s dance in 2/4 time with eight measure phrases. It begins moderately and increases tempo throughout the dance. Advanced

Clarinet and Organ

Meditation and Festive Celebration for Clarinet and Organ - The two movements highlight the expressive capabilities of the clarinet and the strength and range of the organ in an unusual combination. While the clarinet sings over the organ throughout most of Meditation, both instruments emanate a quiet intensity through the movement. Not surprisingly, both instruments are much more extroverted in the Festive Celebration. The clarinet conjures its heritage as a woodwind cousin to the trumpet through its many fanfares, and the organ dazzles with its range and resonant power. Advanced
