Legend of 10,000 Lakes - Legend of 10,000 Lakes musically depicts the history of Minnesota. The piece opens with a broad theme in the low instruments that represents the natural landscape. This soon develops into a hymn-like section representing the majesty of this great land. The Allegro section represents the struggles between native and outside cultures for control of this land. The Moderato section is a folk dance that leads into a religious hymn of thanks. The Allegro section returns at the end to remind us that no one controls the land, as the land belongs to everyone and should be revered, respected, and protected for future generations. Intermediate

Arizona Centennial Overture - Arizona Centennial Overture was commissioned by the Arizona Commission on the Arts as part of the Centennial Legacy Project to help celebrate Arizona’s centennial. The overture pays tribute to the unique blend of the various cultures that had a part in shaping Arizona into what it is today. This six and a half minute composition is divided into three main sections. The first section begins with fanfares that announce the celebration. After thirty seconds, the introduction fades into music that pays tribute to the pioneers that migrated to Arizona. The second section pays tribute to the various Native American cultures that are a large part of Arizona’s history and its present way of life. The third section is influenced by Mariachi music to recognize the Hispanic influence in Arizona. Advanced
